94.7 QDR wants to help homeless animals around the Triangle find fur-ever homes and that’s why we started Fursdays!
We are bringing back our Fursdays the safe way – through Zoom! Each week we will feature a local pet up for adoption through one of the amazing rescue organizations around the area.
This week we are talking with Molly and Darlene from the Animal Protection Society of Durham about their Kitten Season!
It’s Kitten Season!
- Did you know: Spring and Summer are known as “kitten season” because the warm weather acts as a catalyst for bringing intact female cats into heat, usually every three weeks. While this rush of kittens can be very adorable, the APS needs lots of supplies and kitten foster volunteers in order for the kittens in our care to survive, thrive, and find their homes.
Folks interested in fostering or donating supplies can find more information on our website at www.apsofdurham.org. Under the “how you can help tab”, there is a FOSTER page with information about fostering and a kitten foster application. Also, under “how you can help,” there is an “OUR WISH LIST” page with a list of needed kitten supplies!
Although we are still open by appointment only at the shelter at this time, donations can be mailed to us at 2117 E. Club Blvd, Durham NC, 27704 or dropped off outside the front door during business hours.
Of course, there is also plenty of opportunities to ADOPT a kitten during kitten season! We have lots of cats and kittens in our adoption program throughout the kitten season. Keep an eye on the adoptable cat section of our website to find your furever kitten!
- APS’s COVID Precautions:
The shelter staff is still there every day working hard to care for the animals. APS is open by appointment only for services, including surrenders and lost pet searches. For the safety of the community, adoptions have gone totally virtual/digital! All paperwork is handled digitally, and volunteers, staff, and adopters have had great success with virtual “visits” with adoptable animals. Those interested in adopting should first visit their website to see available animals. If interested in setting up a virtual visit our adopting, they ask that folks email in adoption forms (found linked in the bio of each available animal) to [email protected] in order to move forward in the process.
Many of our animals are currently in foster care homes! We have been overwhelmed by the wonderful response from our community to foster and adopt, but we still have a need for foster homes. We have placed over 400 animals in foster homes since the pandemic began!
- Pet Food Pantry and Donations Opportunity:
In order to fulfill our mission of providing care to animals in need and services to all pet owners in the community, we have been gathering pet food to assist those facing financial hardship at this time. Donations for our pet food pantry are greatly appreciated! We need unopened pet food of all kinds (dry cat food, wet cat food, dry dog food, small kibbles, “pocket pet” food, etc.)– whatever brand and retailer you are able to support at this time is greatly appreciated.
Donations can be mailed to 2117 E. Club Blvd Durham NC 27704 or dropped off outside the front door during business hours.
We are also taking financial contributions to our Pet Food Pantry. Information can be found on our website under the “How You Can Help” tab and “Donate” page.
