Our QDR Hometown Hero of the week is Len Needham, Fire Chief for the Bahama Fire Department since 1985.
Len was nominated by Alan Stephenson who says, “He has served the Northern Durham Community of Bahama as a firefighter since 1980 and as Fire Chief since 1997, served on the Board of Directors for the NC Fallen Firefighters Foundation and served as Treasurer in 2000. Len served on the Piedmont NC Firefighters Association, was President of the Durham County Fire Chiefs Board, and served on the NC Association of Fire Chiefs. Len was recognized as the Bahama Citizen of the year 2002, 2009, and 2011. Len was Volunteer Fire Chief of the Year from NCAFC, served on Board of Directors for SEAFC, and is currently serving as Past President Fire Chief of the Year, from the Insurance women of Durham Hometown Hero Award in 2015, from Durham Emergency Chaplains. He has been an incredible advocate for the community by making sure that the community’s Fire and EMS services grew as the community has grown. He has led many young men and women into fire safety as a career and will be incredibly missed…. He should be a 94.7 WQDR Hometown Hero of the week because he is always a hero to his community!”
Thank you, Len, for your service! As a token of our appreciation, we’re sending you a gift card to Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q to thank you for all you do!
