Our QDR Hometown Hero of the Week is Parker Savage, Health Care Specialist for over 20 years, serving the Triangle.
We were blown away by the amazing story behind this week’s hometown hero. She received a bachelor’s degree in 1985 in art and psychology. She chose a career of working with people with special needs because her sister Maryanne is special needs, Parker spent over 20 years working with autistic adults. She is NC approved behavioral de-escalation instructor, while also working as program manager and clinical supervisor. During her years of service, she met and cared for a lady named Miss Phyliss. The facility she was working at closed and she decided to take ‘Miss Phyl’ in, as well as her sister. Parker was nominated by Wanda West who says,” Parker is an amazing and energetic person who sold her home and bought a new one level home with the sole purpose of moving the 2 ladies she cares for in with her. Parker takes care of her own older sister, Maryanne as well as an elderly lady known as Miss Phyllis. Parker cares for the ladies so much and takes them to all their doctor’s appointments as well as to fun events, makes sure Miss Phyl never runs out of her oxygen. Parker hosts a birthday party yearly for each of the ladies. They are so well loved and adored and so many friends and neighbors attend the awesome birthday events. I met these ladies several years ago when Parker brought them in to where I worked for eyewear and I was so impressed with the care and attention she showed them. We became instant friends, I just want to say “Thank you, Parker, for what you do. You’re such an inspiring and fun person to be around!” (Pictured from left to right, Maryanne, Miss Phyllis, and Parker our Hometown Hero on the right.).
Thank you, Parker, for your service! As a token of our appreciation, we’re sending you a $50 gift card to Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q to thank you for all you do.
