Our QDR Hometown Hero of the week is Brook Hinson, EMT for Johnston County Emergency Services.
Brooke goes over and beyond for her patients and coworkers. Her level of compassion and professionalism for a 20-year-old, she surpasses anyone I have ever seen. She is never too busy to listen and talk with her patients. She says they all deserve compassion and to be heard. Brooke is a strong advocate for patient care. She brings joy and sunshine wherever she goes which has earned her the nickname “Sunshine Sparkle Pants.” All while working full-time she has earned her associate’s degree from Wayne Community College in Emergency Management with certificates in EMS and Fire Management and certificates from Fayetteville Technical College in Incident and Disaster Management . She is a Dean’s List student at Johnston Community College where she will graduate in May with an associate’s degree in emergency science (Paramedic) and has served as class President also serves on the programs advisory committee. Brooke is also on the Dean’s List at Western Carolina where she will also graduate in May with a Batchelor’s Degree in Emergency and Disaster Management. Brooke is a national Coke Cola Scholar and a NC SUPER KID SCHOLAR. Often Brooke gets off her shifts and goes straight to her Make A Difference Food Pantry that she started at age 10 and has outreach sites in 6 NC counties and has provided over 11 million meals since it opened. So, to say she is selfless and has a heart for service is an understatement. She is always working to help others and make life better for other people which if you ask anyone that has met her, has had a ripple effect across the country. A true Hero that serves NC and has served other states during disasters for the past 10 years and now has chosen a career path to continue her journey. An inspiration to everyone she meets. Brooke inspires to make everyone know there is hope and someone that cares. Something we can all learn from this 20-year-old. Wise beyond her years. She makes us all want to be better individuals.
Thank you, Brooke, for your service! As a token of our appreciation, we’re sending you a $50 gift card to Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q to thank you for all you do.
