Hometown Hero of the Week: Brandon Crocker, January 15th, 2024
Our QDR Hometown Hero of the Week is Brandon Crocker, firefighter and 911 telecommunicator with Little River Volunteer Fire Department and Lenoir/Jones County 911.

He loves helping the community, and when the call comes in, he stops whatever he is doing and races to his truck to get to the station. His wife and family are incredibly proud of him and all that he does for our community.
Thank you, Brandon, for your service! As a token of our appreciation, we’re sending you a $50 gift card to Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q and $50 from First Horizon Bank to thank you for all you do.

She has a photo board in her classroom of all of her past students and can tell you about each and every one of them. She’s invested in their lives and she’s so deserving for something for herself! She recently returned from a trip to Jamaica where she raised supplies for teachers and children there. I’d love to see Mrs Hinton receive teacher of the month!”

Fursday: Meet Leia from Second Chance!
Meet Leia! This playful 1.5-year-old hound mix is ready for her forever home. She loves to romp and play with other dogs, but she does play hard, so a good playmate is a must! Leia would thrive in a single-story home with a fenced-in yard where she can explore and let loose. As an older puppy, she broke her leg by being a little too adventurous on the stairs, but she’s all healed up now! While she might have a slight limp, it doesn’t slow her down one bit.
Leia is also learning her manners and is incredibly trainable—she already knows “sit” and “down”! With her treat motivation and desire to please, she’s ready to soak up new commands and tricks. Housebreaking is a work in progress for Leia, but with frequent trips outside and plenty of praise, she’ll master it in no time! She walks nicely on a leash, though she can get a bit bouncy from excitement. With a little correction, she quickly settles down and walks beautifully.
After a nice walk, Leia is happy to curl up on her bed with a tasty chew bone or toy. No plush toys though! She cannot resist the urge to completely destuff them if given the opportunity. Leia knows how to settle in her crate when her people are away, feeling comfortable and secure. But when it’s time to come out, she’s without a doubt very excited to see her humans again, ready to shower them with love and enthusiasm!
If this sweet girl sounds like the perfect match for you, don’t wait—apply today!
***Please Note: All the available dogs listed on our website are getting spoiled in private foster homes.
