Our QDR Hometown Hero of the Week is Chad Godwin, firefighter for the Cary Fire Department for 28 years!
Chad was nominated by his wife Sonya who says, “Chad started as a volunteer with the Bethany Fire Department when he was 15. He joined Buies Creek Fire Department in 1990 as a firefighter when he was a freshman in college at Campbell University. He was hired by the Town of Cary Fire Department in 1994. On May 31st, he will retire from serving as a Captain with the Town of Cary with 28 years of service. He will continue to serve as a volunteer with Buies Creek and a part-time firefighter with the Town of Knightdale after retiring. His first true love has been the fire service. He always has felt that service to his community was his top priority. If anyone has a need, it’s his responsibility to help in any way that he can. So he also has helped serve throughout the years in our church, our daughter’s schools, a community clothes closet, and our local food banks. It has been a pleasure to watch this man grow in the fire service over the last 33 years. He is a perfect example of a hometown hero.” Happy retirement from everyone here at 94.7 QDR!
Thank you, Chad, for your service! As a token of our appreciation, we’re sending you a $50 gift card to Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q to thank you for all you do.
