The Salvation Army Red Shield Club (formerly known as Community Center) will hold its ‘Cue for Kids barbecue cook-off, May 29-30 at the North Carolina State Farmers Market. There are 19 spots still remaining and the event is in need of cooks. ‘Cue for Kids is a North Carolina Pork Council sanctioned event where 25 cooks will compete and be judged by NCPC judges to see who has the best barbecue. Funds raised will help fund The Red Shield Club, which offers children educational, recreational and spiritual resources to meet their physical, social, academic and spiritual needs. The top hog receives $1,000.00. Second place takes home $500.00 and third place will receive $300.00. Ed Mitchell, arguably North Carolina’s most famous pitmaster, is a celebrity ambassador for the event.
Persons wishing to sign up or needing more information can visit the ‘Cue for Kids Website www.cue4kidz.com or can call The Salvation Army at 919-390-6739.
