Hometown Hero of the Week: Lt. Robert Harper, January 31st, 2024

Our QDR Hometown Hero of the Week is Robert Harper, Lieutenant for the Raleigh Fire Department.

Robert was nominated by Jimmy Batten, who says “Robert Harper has been serving the public for over 40 years. He has earned the Long Leaf Pine award as a volunteer where he currently holds the rank of assistant chief at Benson Fire Department in Benson, NC. In addition to his volunteer service, Harper has also served as a dedicated professional firefighter for the City of Raleigh for over 25 years. During his professional career with the City of Raleigh, he has served as a firefighter, training officer, and most recently as Lieutenant, at Station 26-C platoon, where he will be retiring on January 31st, 2024. During his tenure with the City of Raleigh, he has been instrumental in the creation and implementation of serving the Retiree Chicken and Rice Luncheon for retired city firemen. Harper has enjoyed and helped maintain this tradition of cooking and reminiscing about “the old days” for nearly 15 years. People who know Harper know he is dependable. Friends, fellow firefighters and acquaintances often call on him to help resolve problems, pitch a hand to help lighten the load, and know they can lean on him, whether night or day. His dedication to the city of Raleigh, how he shows and cares for others, and his desire to help others exemplify who Robert Harper is. His wholeheartedness and commitment to the City of Raleigh will be greatly missed. Robert was nominated by friends and co-workers.” Congratulations on your well deserved retirement!

Thank you, Robert, for your service! As a token of our appreciation, we’re sending you a $50 gift card to Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q to thank you for all you do.
